HURON — The 2013 track champions were crowned in all five divisions on Saturday at Dakota State Fair Speedway.
Kent Arment of Aberdeen collected his 18th overall track title at the Huron oval in the WISSOTA modified division.
Arment capped the 2013 points season by winning his third consecutive main event in the modified division. It was his fourth feature win of the season.
Saturday’s victory gave Arment a total of 493 points for the season, which put him 46 points ahead of Jordan Foster of Henry, who was second in the final standings at 447 points. He now has 14 track championships in the modified division at DSFS.
Rounding out the top five in the final standings were Nick Wranek of Tea in third at 427, Kip Myers of Ethan at 415 and Dale Ames of Huron at 413.
Wranek ran second to Arment in Saturday’s main event, while Myers was third. Scott Hansen of Garden City was fourth, followed by Jay Triplett of Brookings.
Wranek and Scott Bender of Aberdeen won the modified heat races.
Doug Songer of Huron needed to use his drop date, which each driver is allowed to do once per season, during the season championships on Saturday to successfully defend his track championship in the WISSOTA street stock division.
Songer finished the 2013 season with 479 points, which put him just three points ahead of Aberdeen’s Chris Serr in the final standings. It was his third overall track title in the street stock division at his hometown track.
Broc Stout of Winner was third in the final street stock standings at 447, followed by Scott Borstad of Volga at 427 and Tyler Lamb of Clark at 409.
Serr provided plenty of pressure for Songer by winning his heat race and finishing second in the street stock main event on Saturday.
Grady Myers of Ethan topped the field in the feature race for his second win of the season at the Huron oval. Serr was second, followed by Stout, Michael Bogh of Huron and Borstad.
Myers joined Serr as a heat race winner in the street stock division.
Lorin Johnson of Miller, who held just a one-point lead heading into the season championships, emerged with the 2013 title in the WISSOTA Midwest modified division.
Despite finishing ninth in Saturday’s feature race, Johnson was able to gain a point on Scott Sroufe in the final standings to secure the 10th track championship of his career and second in the Midwest modified division at DSFS.
Johnson finished the season with 458 points, compared to 456 points for Sroufe, who was caught up in a melee and wasn’t able to finish Saturday’s feature race while seeking his first track title.
Tracy Johnson of Lake Preston, who recorded his third main event win of the season on Saturday, was third in the final standings at 433. Tyler Johnson of Sioux Falls was fourth at 424, while Chad Olsen of Hendricks, Minn., was fifth at 409.
Olsen trailed Tracy Johnson across the finish line on Saturday to finish second in the Midwest modified main event. Kyle Knouse of Huron was third, followed by Russ Phillips of Winner and Dustin Hofer of Huron.
Tracy Johnson and Knouse won the Midwest modified heat races.
Lorin Johnson’s bid for a second track championship on Saturday came up a point short.
Dustin Arthur of St. Lawrence escaped with the first track title of his career at DSFS on Saturday in the WISSOTA super stock division. He finished with 426 points, compared to 425 points for Johnson, who was the division’s defending track champion.
Dave Carlson of Huron was third in the final standings at 416, followed by Cole Searing of Huron at 409 and Doug VanLiere of Madison at 406.
Searing earned his third feature win of the season Saturday in the super stock division. It was his second trip to Victory Lane in his last three attempts at DSFS.
Johnson claimed the runner-up honors in the super stock main event, while Arthur was third. VanLiere was fourth, followed by Nick Schipke of Aberdeen.
VanLiere and Dale Tomes of Dell Rapids won the super stock heat races.
Brian Diede of Huron withstood a challenge from Arment to win the second track championship of his career in the WISSOTA late model division on Saturday at Dakota State Fair Speedway.
Arment gained three points on Diede during the final night of racing, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the eight-point deficit he faced.
Diede, who also won the late model track title in Huron in 2010, finished with 453 points. Arment had 448 points and was followed by Aberdeen’s Curt Gelling at 439. Rounding out the top five in the final standings were Chad Becker of Aberdeen at 417 and Chad Chenoweth of Huron at 408.
Gelling held off Arment to collect his first feature win of the season Saturday at DSFS. Diede was third, followed by David McDonald of Huron and Chenoweth.
McDonald and Arment won the late model heat races.
Next up at Dakota State Fair Speedway will be the Monster Trucks and Soccer Demo Derby at 1 p.m. Sept. 2 during the South Dakota State Fair.
Racing will return to the Huron speedway in the form of the 2013 Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100, which is scheduled Sept. 11-14.
