SIOUX FALLS — Sierra Goergen had the lone victory for the Huron Tigers during the final day of the State Tennis Tournament on Saturday in Sioux Falls.
Goergen defeated Tianna Duda of Rapid City Central 10-5 to win the consolation championship in the second-flight singles.
Huron’s Cassie Hedblom was edged 10-7 by Jessie Rames of Sioux Falls Lincoln in the third-place match at sixth-flight singles.
The Tigers nearly collected another consolation title in third-flight doubles. Hedblom and Bailey Harvey suffered an 8-6 setback in a tiebreaker to drop an 11-10 decision in the consolation championship match against a team from Sioux Falls Washington.
Huron stayed put in the final team standings, finishing 16th.
Sioux Falls O’Gorman amassed 764 points to run away with the team championship. Washington had 478 points to edge Aberdeen Central by four points for the second spot and St. Thomas More was just a point back in fourth at 473. Rounding out the top five was Rapid City Stevens at 383.
