GETTYSBURG — Senior Jase Kraft of Wessington Springs turned in the winning time of 17 minutes, 15 seconds during the varsity boys’ competition at the Regioin 4B Meet on Wednesday.
Kraft, who was the lone runner for the Spartans to qualify for the state meet, crossed the finish line more than a minute in front of Josh Lamb of Sully Buttes, who was second at 18:38.
Also earning state berths were sophomore Rex Schlicht of Woonsocket and Sunshine Bible Academy teammates Chris Hass and Jace Burma, who are in eighth and seventh grade, respectively.
Schlicht was sixth wth a time of 18:52, Hass finished 14th at 19:17 and Burma followed in 16th at 19:18.
Sully Buttes won the region title in the boys’ division and will advance its entire team to the state meet, along with Stanley County, which was second, and Ipswich, which was third.
Sunshine Bible Academy eighth-grader Renee Seaman and junior teammate Alexis Lane earned spots in the state tournament field by finishing in the top 20 of the girls’ varsity race on Wednesday.
Seaman finished 10th at 16:59, while Lane was 14th at 17:27.
Ipswich had the top three runners in the field, led by Macy Heinz with a winning time of 14:32. She was followed by Tori Moore at 15:10 and Taylor Loken at 15:31.
Ipswin claimed the girls’ team title and will be joined in the team competition at the state meet by Potter County and Lyman, which were second and third, respectively.
