Tigers fifth in Watertown

WATERTOWN — The Huron gymnastics team finished fifth at the Watertown Invitational, which was held Saturday.

Mitchell won the event with a score of 145.325, while Madison was second at 141.475. Rounding out the top five were Watertown at 135.2, Deuel at 134.575 and Huron at 132.225.

Brookings was sixth at 131.875, followed by Britton-Hecla at 125.4, Sisseton at 124.825 and Milbank at 124.225.

“It was a good day for the Tigers,” Huron coach Julie King said. “Floor continues to be our strong event. Beam was a better day, but still looking for that perfect meet.

“I think the girls will peak at just the right time,” she said. “We were very proud of them.”

Hailey McCune was the lone placewinner for the Tigers. She used a score of 9.05 to finish seventh on the beam and tied for seventh on the vault with an 8.8.

McCune was eight for Huron in the all-around, with a score of 34.95.

Krisia Bramer of Watertown won the all-around at 38.05. She also won the beat with a 9.625, the floor exercise with 9.625 and the bars with a 9.65.

Quinci Herll of Mitchell won the vault with a 9.275.

The Huron gymnastics team will be back in action Thursday, when it hosts Watertown and Aberdeen Central in a 5:30 p.m. triangular at the Tiger Activities Center.
