HURON ― The Huron Tigers came away with a second-place finish in its inaugural Huron Invite held Saturday at Huron Arena.

The Tigers amassed 172 points including two champions and two other finalists.

Aberdeen Central proved its dual victory over the Tigers a night before was no fluke as they took the championship home by capturing five titles and four other finalists.

Seniors Wyatt Shillingstad at 120 pounds and Tyler Kleinsasser at 195 pounds were the Tigers’ two champions.

Shillingstad had a first-period pin in his semifinal match before earning an 8-2 decision over Aberdeen Central’s Trevor Heib.

Kleinsasser also had a first period pin before recording a pin in his championship match. His pin came against Watertown’s Jesse Forman with 1:25 seconds to go in the third period.

The two other finalists for the Tigers were senior Chet Glanzer at 132-pounds and sophomore Josh Waagen at 285 pounds.

Glanzer lost 9-6 in his championship match to Watertown’s James Suter. Before that he defeated Webster’s Logan Richie 5-2 in the semifinals.

Waagen pinned Yankton’s Landon Binder in the first period before falling to Mitchell’s Robert McCardle 4-2 in the finals.

Finishing third for the Tigers was junior Jeremiah Johnson in the 220-pound class while sophomore Bailey Schoenfelder (182 pounds), sophomore Colin Simon (160 pounds) and freshman Nick Christiansen (152 pounds) finished fourth.

Other Tigers that placed included freshman Trent Francom (113 pounds), who finished fifth, while seniors Connor Gose (170 pounds) and Arthur Hines (145 pounds) along with sophomore Jesse Mikrut (138 pounds) and seventh grader Chip Shillingstad (106 pounds) all finished sixth.
