Brookings records win against Huronís Post 7

BROOKINGS ó The Brookings Bandits needed just seven innings to get past Huron Post 7 in an American Legion baseball game on Wednesday at Bob Shelden Field.

Brookings opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and the score remained 3-0 until Huron put its first runs on the board in the fourth inning.

A lead-off triple by Damen Robish fueled the two-run spurt by Post 7 to narrow the deficit to 3-2.

Robish would score on a double by Cole Peterson. After reaching third on a passed ball, Peterson scored Huronís second run on a double by Parker DeJean.

The Bandits responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to build a 7-2 lead and then added two more runs in the fifth to make it 9-2.

Post 7 put its final two runs on the board in the sixth inning.

Peterson recorded his second double to lead off the sixth for Huron and Tristan Hamilton followed with a walk. Both were able to score on a two-out single by Collin Boehrns to cut Brookingsí lead to 9-4.

The Bandits responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and ended the game with three more runs in the seventh inning.

Peterson finished with three of the nine hits in the game for Huron, while Boehrns had a pair of hits.

Peterson started on the mound and pitched the first four innings for Post 7. He allowed nine hits, while striking out three and walking none.

Matt Johnson pitched the next two innings for Huron, allowing seven runs on one hit, with a pair of strikeouts. Hamilton closed the game on the mound in the seventh inning.

Post 7 will return to action Sunday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Pierre.
