Developmentally disabled individuals in the Huron area will reap the benefits of the annual Knights of Columbus Toostsie Roll Drive that begins Friday at noon at several local businesses.
About 70 Knights of Columbus volunteers, all wearing bright yellow vests, will be giving away Tootsie Rolls for donations this weekend at Coborn’s Inc., Kmart, Fair City Foods and Lewis Drug.
Last year more than $3,500 was raised during the event, and this year’s goal is to meet or exceed that amount.
Ninety percent of the proceeds are used locally, with the balance helping fund statewide programs for the developmentally disabled. Last years local funds were donated to HOPE Foundation, Huron High School Special Olympics, Huron Advocacy, Buchanan School Special Education and Huron Area Center For Independence.
Anyone that may have missed the opportunity to donate to the developmentally disabled residents of Huron may send their contributions to Huron Knights of Columbus at P.O. Box 498, Huron, S.D. 57350.
