HURON Lifting spirits with song was the objective of a volunteer choral group of freshmen from Huron High School, as they visited StoneyBrook Suites, SunQuest Village and Violet Tschetter Memorial Home Nov. 25.

At each place, their songs were welcomed with enthusiastic appreciation and the audience asked for more. The mix of three young men and six young women obliged the audience by performing an encore piece or two off the cuff. The multi-talented group enjoyed performing and several students played accompaniment on the piano.

Singing for the residents was the idea of Marissa Cruse, daughter of Jennefer and Jesse Cruse of Huron. The nine students prepared by meeting one to two times a week for a month to practice the songs before their performance on Sunday. Cruse and her friends took it upon themselves to plan the event, without the oversight of an adult. Along with Cruse, the other participants were Courtney Baszler, Cameron Schroeder, Rachel Smith, Dylan Stahly, Riley Balcom, Sam Carr, Lauren Kattner, Nichole Metter and Brandon Haber.

The choral group looks forward to visiting the elderly again in the next couple weeks to brighten hearts with Christmas carols.
