HURON — Huron Regional Medical Center employees ‘decorated with heart’ during the month of December to benefit those in need through the Salvation Army.

Hospital departments were invited to decorate a box for collecting paper products and other items to be donated to the Salvation Army. Employees then voted for one of the 15 creative entries which included a hand-crafted wooden replica Radio Flyer wagon, a large box covered with fabric to resemble Santa’s red pants, snowmen made from boxes, a Snoopy Christmas and an elf on a shelf. The event was sponsored by HRMC’s activity committee, which plans events to engage employees in team-building and community-involvement events, activities and projects.

The winning entry, “Snow Peeps … Cold Hands, Warm Hearts,” was designed by HRMC’s surgery and central sterilization department. It featured a row of Styrofoam snow people dressed in donated hats, mittens and scarves gathered around two large coolers filled with more hats and gloves and other donated items.

In recognition of their People’s Choice honor, the department will receive a sub sandwich party. In all, more than 500 donated items will be delivered to the Salvation Army to replenish their shelves after the Christmas holiday.
