Huron post prom was created 28 years ago to provide a safe, structured, chemical-free atmosphere where students can socialize with their peers after the formal prom festivities.
The committee is made up of parents from both the junior and senior class and they are once again planning an evening filled with entertainment, food, music, games and prizes — solely funded by donations from parents, local merchants, fraternal organizations and members of the community. And the committee is appreciative and grateful to each and every one who contributes to this free-of-charge event!
Last year, more than 200 students participated in this fun-filled evening that is held at the National Guard Armory from midnight to 4 a.m. immediately following the dance.
Besides plenty of food and soda, there are games galore for them to play in the Casino Room and Game Room, as well as fun activities such as Minute-to-Win-It and the National Guard’s inflatable Obstacle Course.
Each time students play a game or participate in an activity, they receive a ticket to win one of tons of valuable prizes. Everyone who attends is guaranteed to win a prize! The highlight of the evening is the hypnotist, “The Trance Lady.”
The doors are locked right after the post prom party begins and those wishing to leave early sign out and are not allowed to return. It is a safe, adult-supervised evening.
There is still time for you to contribute to this worthwhile event. Simply mail your donation to HHS Post Prom Party Committee, PO Box 629, Huron, S.D. 57350, or you can attend the Pancake Feed to be held at the Elks from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 14. You may also phone Barry or Teri Mack at 352-5116 to give your donation.
The committee thanks everyone who has contributed to make this another successful post prom by helping us provide our children with not only a low-risk, productive alternative to using alcohol, drugs or tobacco after the prom, but also having fun and creating great memories in the process! For the complete article see the 04-09-2013 issue.
