New Odyssey, a group that bills itself as “three guys and thirty instruments” will be performing in Redfield at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, as the concluding event of the Redfield Area Concert Association’s performances.

The show will be in the auditorium of the S.D. Developmental Center in Redfield, which is handicap accessible using the west entrance. Admittance is by membership in the Redfield Area Concert Association.

The performers that make up New Odyssey have been together for more than 20 years.

• Gary Todd, drummer and comic, has been involved in show business since the age of 2 when he performed as an acrobat with his family. He sings and performs on more than 15 musical instruments.

• Michael Jay has been singing and playing guitar since he was 12. By the time he was 21, he was composing music for his own bands and performing alongside national recording artists. He is the vocal strong point of the band and plays 10 instruments.

• The third member of New Odyssey is Gary Polkow, who began his piano training at the age of 7. He serves as the group’s musical director.

New Odyssey puts on a show with outstanding arrangements of almost every musical style resulting in an act that is versatile, funny and polished. Among the music on their repertoire is “Feels So Good,” “Root Beer Rag,” “Ring of Fire,” “I’ll Be There,” “In the Still of the Night” and “Amazing Grace,” as well as a set of Beatles tunes that includes 29 instruments. These talented musicians put on a high-energy, family-friendly show that goes beyond a traditional concert. They offer a lot of humor with a dose of zanniness that ranks this as one of the most unique shows to come to Redfield.

RACA memberships for the upcoming 2013-14 season will be for sale at this concert. Featured next season will be Goldwing Express (gospel and bluegrass) Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m.; first place winners in international competition, the Yelduz Shrine Chanters (27 member male chorus) on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m.; the Abrams Brothers (bluegrass with a little country and rock) on Sunday, March 23, at 3 p.m.; and the world-renown John Davidson (TV icon, singer and guitarist) on Sunday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m.

A DVD featuring these upcoming shows will be playing in the lobby prior to the start of the New Odyssey show for those who want a glimpse of what’s to come.

In Redfield, rides to this performance are available by calling Jerry Hansen at 472-1463 by Friday, April 19.
