Tessa Dee of Mitchell, Miss Gold Rush, was crowned Miss South Dakota 2013 Saturday night in Hot Springs. Her platform is “Project Bookworm.” For her talent, she performed a gymnastics dance to “Bad.” Dee won the preliminary swimsuit award Wednesday night. She is 22 years old and is a graduate of the University of South Dakota in the field of health science.
First runner-up was Miss Sturgis, Morgan Black of Rapid City. Black won the talent award Thursday.
Second runner-up was Miss Hot Springs, Autumn Simunek of Hot Springs. Simunek also won the fundraiser award, Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Maker award, Miss South Dakota community service award, and Miss America community service award.
Third runner-up was Miss Rolling Plains, Katie Barnett of Wagner. Barnett won the “Ray Peterson Rookie of the Year” $500 scholarship for the first-year contestant with the highest overall score.
Fourth runner-up was Miss Brookings, Katelyn Breen.
Miss Dakota Rose Carrie Wintle of Iroquois, Miss Sioux Empire Fair Alexis Kosiak and Miss Lake Alvin Jade Possail rounded out the top eight finalists.
