Plans are under way for the 2013-2014 Huron BackPack program. Last year approximately 380 students were served each week in the Huron community. The program provides supplemental food items for the weekend when school lunch is not available. Permission slips will be sent home with students and parents must return the form to the school office.
The program began in January 2009 serving one school in Huron and now serves every school. Plans are currently under way to expand to the Wolsey-Wessington School District. Backpacks will be stuffed and distributed to schools on Wednesdays at 2:50 pm. The packing/delivering will begin on Oct. 2 at the Tiger Activity Center (old Huron University Gym). The first distribution will be sent home with the students on Thursday or Friday that week.
