The “I Made a Difference” award was given to Casey and Starla McKowan, 1284 Wisconsin Ave. S.W. They have done extensive landscaping work and their yard is absolutely amazing. They added a patio area to sit and enjoy their lovely flowers. Casey and Starla purchase different flowers, decorations and plant stands for each other for their anniversary and birthdays. They recently planted some trees, painted the fence, and Casey tried his hand at carving a “Welcome” sign and their last name in logs that came from a big tree they took down. You can see them on the corner of 13th Street and Wisconsin Avenue Southwest. They said they have many more things they have planned — reshingling their home, painting and landscaping their backyard. Pictured from left, are Casey and Starla McKown along with Bev Freng, from the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 1776. The couple received a flag from the Ladies Auxiliary, gift certificates from Lewis Drug, Dakota Provisions and East River Nursery, and a gift from Runnings. Nominations can be picked up at the Campus Center or email firstname.lastname@example.org. There are several more awards to be presented, so get those nominations in!
