The 2010 Heartland 4-H Rodeo Ambassador contest will begin today at 5 p.m. at the Heartland 4-H Rodeo grounds near Huron.
The 4-H Rodeo will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at the 4-H grounds, and the Heartland Senior Ambassador and Junior Ambassador contest will be held at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
The reigning queens are McKenzie Olsen, senior, and Sierra Goergen, junior.
Senior Ambassador contestants are:
Heidi Enck is the 17-year-old daughter of Tad and Brenda Enck. She is a senior at De Smet High School. Enck has been in 4-H rodeo for 8 years and is competing in barrels, poles and the Ambassador contest. In her spare time, she enjoys training ponies, hanging out with friends, reading, playing piano and making jewelry.
Lacey Hanson is the 15-year-old daughter of Garry Hanson and Sylvia Holmstrom. She is a freshman at Willow Lake High School where she plays volleyball and is a wrestling and football cheerleader. She will be competing in barrels, poles, goat tying and the ambassador contest this weekend. When she isnt traveling the rodeo circuit, Hanson enjoys trail riding with friends and family and babysitting.
Natalie Prins is the 14-year-old daughter of Bryan and Sheila Prins of Sisseton. She is a freshman at Sisseton High School where she is active in gymnastics and volleyball. She has been in 4-H rodeo for four years competing in pole bending and barrel racing. Prins enjoys participating in local open horse shows, swimming and hanging out at the lake with family.
Kylie Tekrony is the 16-year-old daughter of Blaine and Joellen Tekrony and Heather and Matt Mohr. She is a sophomore at Deuel High School where she is in basketball, FFA, chorus, band, plays, and she is a football manager. She plans to compete in barrels, poles and the ambassador contest this weekend. In her spare time she enjoys riding horse with friends and driving!
Junior Ambassador contestants are:
Kaylee Braun is the 11-year-old daughter of Jon and Lesley Braun. She is a sixth grader at Ipswich Middle School where she is active in basketball, volleyball and softball. She enjoys working with the elderly at the nursing home, agility reading and dog obedience. She will be competing in barrels, poles and the flag race.
Shannon Ellig is the 14-year-old daughter of Tod and DeeAnne Ellig. She is a freshman at Fargo South Campus 2. She is competing in breakaway roping, barrels, poles and the Ambassador contest. She enjoys hunting, fishing, target shooting, playing the cello, trail riding and hanging out with friends. Even though she stays busy she loves taking care of her animals.
Alison Fenske is the 12-year-old daughter of Marc and Ann Fenske. This blonde-haired, blue-eyed cowgirl is a seventh grader at Huron Middle School. She enjoys playing tennis, volleyball and she is a tap, ballet and jazz dancer. In her spare time she enjoys babysitting and reading. She will be competing in barrels, poles and the Ambassador contest.
Roni Jankord is the 12-year-old daughter of Wayne and Carmen Jankord of Castlewood. She is in seventh grade and participates in basketball and softball. She has been in rodeo for two years and competes in goat tying, poles and barrels. In her spare time she enjoys helping on the family farm and talking!
Morgan Selland is the 13-year-old daughter of Barry and Shelly Selland. She is an eighth grader at Sanborn Central Middle School, where she is active in basketball, volleyball, track, band and choir. She is also active in 4-H, Junior High School Rodeo, NBHA, IBRA, cutting and roping. She enjoys training horses, reading and church activities. She will be competing in barrels, poles, breakaway and goat tying.
Brittany Wittnebel is the 10-year-old daughter of Barrett and Peggy Wittnebel. She is a fifth grader at Castlewood Elementary. She has been in 4-H for two years and Little Britches Rodeo competing in barrels, poles, flag race and goat tying. In her spare time this blonde-haired, green- eyed girl likes to play basketball, go trail riding, showing her horses, learning to breakaway rope, swimming and spending time with her animals.
