William Knox, 90, of Highmore

HIGHMORE William Knox, 90, of Highmore, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Highmore Health.

His funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Highmore with the Rev. Kori Lehrkamp officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Gregory. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

William Evertt Knox was born June 22, 1922, to Virgil and Philora (Strong) Knox northwest of Dixon. He graduated from Gregory High School in 1940. On Jan. 11, 1940, he married Norma Graesser. They farmed in the area and in 1958, purchased a ranch in Hyde County. She died in 2008 and he moved into Highmore Health in May 2010. In Hyde County, he was a member of the boards for Cenex, First State Bank, Hand-Hyde County FHA and FSA. He was awarded the Federal Land Bank Golden Anniversary Medal.

He is survived by two sons, Richard (Bernadette) and Gerald (Doris), all of Highmore; a daughter, Carol (Reid) Huber of Pierre; two brothers, Norman of Ammon, Idaho, and Ronald of Springfield, Ill.; two sisters, Donna Matejka of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Doris Knox of Bonesteel; 11 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Gene; and an infant grandson.
