HURON — The James Valley Christian Lady Vikings defeated the Iroquois Lady Chiefs in a 3-0 victory on Tuesday evening.

For the Lady Vikings, Jaclyn Loban led the attack at the net with 12 kills. Betsy Nelson and Tara Nihart contributed 7 kills apiece to the contest. Ariana Zuccaro led the Lady Vikings in digs with 18. Kristen Williams was 17 of 20 in serving with 3 aces, and Hannah Loban was 16 for 16 with 2 aces.

Head coach Tim Nihart said consistency on the defensive side was what allowed his team to overpower the Lady Chiefs. Nihart also said he has been moving some players to different positions, which has led to better team consistency offensively and defensively.

Although pleased with the performance, coach Nihart said the team needs to bring more energy in the floor, especially late in the match. “We need to keep bringing the energy to the floor night after night,” he said.

Britney Moeller of the Lady Chiefs led the team with 9 kills, and contributed 3 blocks. Alex Hanson led them defensively with 11 digs. Amber Jacobs landed 10 out of 10 serves on the night and Hanson had 5 out of 6 serves with 3 aces.

Iroquois head coach Jesse Rounds said his team still needs to focus more on minimizing errors. “We could play with them at times, and then we’d have two or three mistakes and the momentum shifted right back to them,” said Rounds. “We knew coming into it they are a good team, and if we wanted to win we needed to make fewer mistakes.”

Both teams open the 281 Conference Tournament on Thursday.

The Lady Vikings’ will face Sunshine Bible Academy at 7:25 p.m. in the JVC gym.

Iroquois plays against Sanborn Central at 7:15 p.m. in Forestburg.
