Hupps win championships at State 4-H Rodeo Finals

HURON Tarin and Jacey Hupp of Huron won three championships during the South Dakota 4-H Rodeo Finals, which were held Aug. 24-26 in Fort Pierre.

The sisters qualified to compete in goat tying, breakaway roping, ribbon roping and team roping at the finals.

Tarin, who was in her final year of 4-H eligibility claimed the all-around title at the 2012 state event. She won the championship in breakaway roping with times of 2.78 and 2.53 seconds and was reserve champion in goat tying with times of 7.34 and 7.48 seconds.

In the opening round, Tarin tied for first in goat tying and fifth in breakaway roping. She won the ribbon roping and goat tying events in the second round, while placing fifth in goat tying.

Jacey edged her older sister by .03 seconds to win the championship in the goat tying with times of 7.81 and 6.98. She was eighth in the first round and won the second round.

Jacey also was fourth in the first round of the team roping.

Tarin finished her 4-H rodeo career with five state championships and two reserve titles.

The Hupps are the daughters of Bill and LaDonna Hupp.
