HURON — The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds defeated the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans 3-0 on Thursday in the first night of the 281 Conference Volleyball Tournament.
The Lady Warbirds’ Ashley Eggleston completed 13 out of 13 serving attempts, seven of those resulting in aces. Brittany Bergquist completed 13 out of 14 attempts and came away with five aces and Sydney Tschetter contributed 13 out of 15 attempts and had four aces.
Tschetter had 11 kills to lead the Lady Warbirds, followed by Bergquist with eight kills of her own. Monica Hentzi led her team in assists with nine. Tschetter and Hentzi led the defensive effort with 12 and eight digs, respectively. Leading blockers were Bergquist with seven, Tschetter with three and Brittney Zerfoss with three.
For the Lady Spartans, Devin Tebay led her team in aces with six. Traci Orth and Sheyanne Brodkorb led the offense with four kills apiece, and Orth also had seven blocks. Cassidy Christopherson-Musik had four digs to lead the Lady Spartans’ defense. Leading setters were Haley Reider and Lexi Olinger, who each contributed seven assists.
The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds will face the James Valley Christian Lady Vikings in the semifinals of the 281 conference tournament on Saturday in . The Lady Spartans will face SBA in the consolation semifinals.

In the other bracket, which was played in Forestburg on Thursday, top-seeded Sanborn Central-Woonsocket defeated No. 8 Iroquois and fourth-seeded Highmore-Harrold defeated Hitchcock-Tulare.
The championship round will be played Saturday in Forestburg. Sanborn Central-Woonsocket will play Highmore-Harrold at 3 p.m. in the first semi-final game and James Valley Christian will play Wolsey-Wessington in the second semi-final game at 4:15 p.m.
The third-place game is slated for 5:30 p.m., with the championship game to follow at 6:45 p.m.
The consolation bracket will be played in Tulare on Saturday.
Hitchcock-Tulare will face Iroquois in the first game of the consolation semifinals at 3 p.m. with SBA and Wessington Springs meeting in the second at 4:15 p.m.
The seventh-place game is slated for 5:30 p.m., with the consolation championship to follow at 6:45 p.m.
