Top-seeded SC-W wins opener in 281 Tourney

FORESTBURG — Top-seeded Sanborn Central-Woonsocket opened the 281 Conference Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 victory against No. 8 Iroquois on Thursday.

Morgan Selland led the Lady Blackhawks with seven kills and two blocks. Marissa Weber and Rachel Selland each added four kills.

Morgan Larson and Selland recorded four and three aces, respectively, for Sanborn Central-Woonsocket. Candace Page-Marten had four assists and had 14 digs, while Rachelle Moore had a team-high 16 digs and Larson tallied 14 digs.

Iroquois was led by Britney Moeller with 10 kills and three blocks. Kelsey Blue had three aces and 12 assists, while Amber Jacobs had a team-high 13 digs.

As the top-seeded team in the winner’s bracket, Sanborn Central-Woonsocket will host the championship round today in Forestburg.

The Lady Blackhawks will face Highmore-Harrold in the first game of the semifinals at 3 p.m. today.

Meanwhile, the consolation round will be held today in Tulare. Iroquois will face Hitchcock-Tulare in the first game of the consolation semifinals at 3 p.m. today.

FORESTBURG — Highmore-Harrold, which is the fourth seed, used a 3-0 victory against Hitchcock-Tulare on Thursday to advance to the semifinals in the 281 Conference Volleyball Tournament.

Tyann Hamlin had eight kills to lead the Pirates (9-4) to the victory. Tierny Hamlin had five aces and a team-high three blocks, while McKenzee Zilverberg had 11 assists and Lizzy Buchholz and Kacie McCauley each finished with 12 digs.

LaMour Binger led Hitchcock-Tulare with 10 kills and five blocks. Saige Peterson was the leading server, going 13 of 14, while Kira Tschetter had seven assists and Molly Koester had 15 digs.

Highmore-Harrold will face top-seeded Sanborn Central-Woonsocket in the first semi-final game at 3 p.m. today in Forestburg.

Hitchcock-Tulare will play Iroquois in the first game of the consolation semifinals at 3 p.m. today in Tulare.
