HURON — Dianna “Dani Rae” Burkel, 68, of Huron, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Holland officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kuhler Funeral Home, kuhlerfuneralhome.com.
Dianna Rae Bauman was born Nov. 16, 1943, at Fergus Falls, Minn., to James and Harriet (Forbes) Bauman. She grew up in Huron where she attended school. On July 19, 1961, she married Carl Burkel at Woonsocket. They lived in various places while he served in the Air Force. Following his discharge they moved to Woonsocket and then to Huron in 1969. She worked at the Plains as a bartender and a barmaid for 18 years. Some of her hobbies included bowling, bingo and baking. Her fudge earned an honorable mention at the South Dakota State Fair. She also enjoyed shopping and trips to Florida.
She is survived by her husband; four children, Thomas (Dawn) of Alpena, Dawn (Kelup) Lechner of Aberdeen, Jody Delgado of Rapid City and James (Billie Jo) of Cavour; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Janet (Ron) Rust of Nemo; and a half sister, Barbara (Bill) Young of Milwaukee, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Richard.
