MITCHELL — Three of the six Huron golfers made up ground Tuesday to the help the Tigers move up one spot during the final round of the Class AA State Boys’ Golf Tournament at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.
After shooting a 346 on Monday, Huron collectively turned in a 347 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at 693 for 13th place in the final standings, which was one spot better than it was after the opening round.
Sioux Falls Lincoln claimed the Class AA state title with a 596, while Sioux Falls O’Gorman was second at 609. Rounding out the top five were Yankton at 621, Brandon Valley at 623 and Aberdeen Central at 624.
Sophomore Tommy Vining of Sioux Falls Lincoln edged Aberdeen Central senior Thomas Hogg for the top spot in the individual standings. Vinning finished at 144, while Hogg rallied to finish at 145.
Cole Peterson led the Tigers with a 167, which put in a three-way tie for the 43rd spot.
Huron’s JP Noonan dropped one stroke from his first round score, while Colin Claeys improved seven strokes during the second round. Both finished at 175 to share the 63rd spot.
Alec Sibson, who is the lone senior for the Tigers, followed with a 176, while Riley Goeller dropped two strokes to finish at 184 and Nolan Weigel finished at 195.
