You’ll find the great pumpkin catapult, ping pong ball drop, live entertainment, bean bag contest, a costume contest, plus so much more at this year’s Huron Harvest Fest Saturday at the S.D. State Fairgrounds.
This year’s event will feature many of the activities that people look forward to plus some new ones. The Farmers Market, face painting, great pumpkin catapult, pumpkin carving demonstrations and needle in a haystack, to name a few, will all be back this year!
The Huron Young Professionals and the S.D. State Fair have designated the United Way Heartland Region (UWHR) as the recipient of donations received during the evening band performances at Harvest Fest.
Head to the Family Living Center at the State Fairgrounds Saturday to hear James River Bluegrass Band at 6 p.m. and Exit 357 at 8:30 p.m., and support the UWHR with a donation to help the upcoming campaign.
There will be two ping pong drops — one for kids and one for adults. The kids drop will be held at 12:30 p.m., while the adult drop will be at 4:30 p.m.
Mrs. Click It will be on hand providing entertainment for the youth from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a Harvest 5K Run and Walk sponsored by Anytime Fitness is being planned for the morning.
There are two cook-offs in the works for the day. A Harvest Fest Porkbutt Cook-Off is planned, with teams competing for cash prizes. Teams can choose to check-in Friday evening or Saturday morning. Judging will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The other food contest being planned by the Center for Independence is the great pumpkin recipe contest. The rules are fairly simple; entries must include pumpkin. People wanting to enter can bring their pumpkin creation, along with the recipe, to the Family Living Center between 1 to 2 p.m. to be judged. Awards will follow.
Beginning at 3 p.m., the community will be invited to enjoy an adult atmosphere with games, live music and beer tasting. A bean bag tournament and Ellwein Brothers beer tasting will begin at 3 p.m. The Huron Harvest Fest is free to attend.For the complete article see the 10-04-2012 issue.
