REDFIELD — Donna Mae Gakin, 77, of Redfield, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Avera St. Luke Hospital in Aberdeen.
The funeral will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield with the Rev. Tim Fugman officiating. Burial will follow in Mobridge City Cemetery at 4 p.m.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, thelenfuneralhome.com.
Donna Mae Skillingstad was born Feb. 20, 1935, at Mobridge to Alfred and Lendena (Beyerle) Skillingstad. She grew up on the family farm near Tolstoy. She moved to Mobridge in the early 1960s and worked at the café for several years.
She married George Gakin Aug. 16, 1967. They lived in Washington state, Timberlake, Mobridge and Glenham. After his death in 1974, she moved to Mobridge and then to Redfield in 1978. She worked at Hawkeye Ink in the old Plainview Academy in Redfield until 2001. She enjoyed whittling, crocheting and sewing.
She is survived by two children, Gloria Gakin and Clyde Gakin, both of Redfield; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Lennie (Ila) of Sundance, Wyo., and Arlie (Verleen) of Selby; and a sister, Fern (Lyle) Dickhaut of Mobridge.
