HURON— The Wessington Springs Lady Spartans have advanced to the semifinals of the District 9B tournament with a 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 and 15-4 victory over Iroquois.
The Lady Spartans were led by the tandem of Traci Orth, who had eight blocks and five aces, and Sheyanne Brodkorb who had 12 kills and nine digs.
Haley Reider added 12 assists and Devin Tebay had eight digs.
For Iroquois, Lacey Nelson had four aces, while up front Britney Moeller had 20 kills and four blocks.
Kelsey Blue led Lady Chiefs with 22 assists and Amber Jacobs totaled the most digs with 22.
Wessington Springs is now 9-17 and will play No. 1 seeded Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Thursday at 6 p.m. while No. 2 seeded James Valley Christian will play No. 3-seeded Wolsey-Wessington at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be in Wolsey.
In other Class B action Sunshine Bible Academy defeated Lower Brule 25-12, 25-12, 25-16 in the first round of the District 5B tournament.
Leading the way for the Crusaders were Tricia Wilken who had eight kills, and Erin Rogers who had nine aces and three assists.
Rebekah Konechne added three aces and two kills, while Kaylee Goeringer had four aces and one dig. Sierra Young had three assists.
The Crusaders (10-14) now advance to play No. 1 seeded Highmore-Harrold at 7 p.m. Thursday in Highmore.
Meanwhile in the other semifinal No. 2-seeded Sully Buttes will take on No. 3-seeded Faulkton Area at 7 p.m. Thursday in Onida.
The Miller Rustlers defeated Crow Creek 25-23, 25-13 and 25-11 to advance to the District 12 championship match Tuesday, Nov. 1 against No. 1 seeded Chamberlain.
The championship match will be played at 7 p.m. in Crow Creek.
In District 3A Clark-Willow Lake defeated Florence-Henry 25-7, 25-16, 25-13 to advance to the District 3A Championship match which will be played Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
