HURON — The annual Huron Area Veterans Day Program sponsored by the Huron Veterans Council and Performance Radio will be Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. in the Huron High School auditorium.
The public is invited to attend a free musical salute to veterans provided by the 147th Army Band out of Mitchell.
The Huron Veterans Council is comprised of veterans organizations from throughout the community including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 40 et 8, Marine Corps League, S.D. National Guard and Navy Wives Club of America. Area American Legions posts from Wolsey, Virgil, Iroquois, Wessington, Hitchcock and Alpena are also invited to participate.
For those unable to attend, the program will be aired live on 1340 KIJV.
Wolsey-Wessington
Wolsey-Wessington School will host a Veteran’s Day program at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 12 in the new school gymnasium.
This year’s speaker will be Wessington Springs native 1st Lieutenant Chris Schimke.
Schimke resides in Huron and is a member of the 153 Engineering Battalion in Huron. He is a former high school teacher and is currently working for Farm Credit Services of America.
Wessington native, Marvin Palmer will be recognized with a high school diploma. Palmer has earned his diploma through his military service.
All are welcome to attend.
