South Dakota’s 147th Army Band of Mitchell will be performing a concert in honor of Veteran’s Day at 2 p.m. Sunday at Huron High School. The concert is free and open to the public.

The 147th Army Band consists of more than 40 citizen-soldier-musicians who come together monthly to rehearse and prepare for military and civilian performances and ceremonies. Within the concert band there are five music performance teams — the rock band, “SGT Rock;” the country band, “Drive On;” the clarinet group, “Black OPS;” the brass choir, “Mission Essential Brass;” and the variety show band, “FTX.”

The Mission of U.S. Army Bands is to “provide music throughout the spectrum of military operations, to instill in soldiers the will to fight and win, foster the support of citizens, and promote national interests at home and abroad.”

The band performed in Huron this past summer as a part of the community’s summer concert series.
