HURON — The Huron Tiger volleyball team brought their staple blocking game Tuesday night as the Tigers defeated the Pierre Lady Govs 18,25, 25-12, 25-22, and 25-21.

The wins secures a regional match with Rapid City Central who lost 25-18, 18-25, 25-14, 25-18 in the District 4 Championship Game to Rapid City Stevens.

In the Tigers victory the team came out a little slow dropping the first set 25-18.

“We weren’t sure what we where going to get after the Mitchell match,” said Tiger head coach Shelley Buddenhagen.

The Tigers caught fire in the second set winning 25-12 and won crucial points in the third and fourth sets to stave off Lady Gov rallies.

Offensively, for the Tigers Katelyn Allerdings led with 18 kills while her sister played a great match almost matching her 15 kills.

Halee Allerdings had a good game in the back row defending Pierre’s attacks as she had 15 digs, to go along with Taylor Rotert’s 25 digs and Bialey Rathjen’s 12.

Defensively on the front line the Tigers got three solo blocks from Jacey Hupp and she also had a pair of block assists as did MaKayla Goergen.

When Goergen was not at the net she was setting up the Tiger attack with 43 assists.

“Makayla did a really good job of getting the ball to the hot hands,” said Buddenhagen.

The Tigers hoped to continue this momentum on Friday when they return to Huron arena and host Rapid City Central at 6 p.m.
