Beadle County CFEL holds fall council meeting in Huron

The Beadle County Community and Family Extension Leaders Fall Council meeting was held in the Fireside Room of the Huron Area Senior Center on October 11, 2012.

The theme of the meeting was “Grandma’s Treasures,” and several members came in vintage attire. The Country Neighbors Club was in charge of registration. The meal was prepared and served by Doug Stevens, and punch and favors were provided by BYYs Club.

Members participated in a purse exchange and rummage sale benefit. Special accordion music was provided by Dianne Perry. “Those Were the Days” group singing was led by Julie Boomsma with Darlene Olsen providing piano accompaniment. Members shared memories of their grandmothers or other important persons in their life.

The business meeting was called to order by Vivian Rearick, county president. There were 31 members and one guest, Marcella Larsen, present.

Installation of officers for 2013 was conducted by past president Dianne Perry, president, Florence Adermann; vice president, Ellen Halter; secretary, Lorene Cavigielli; treasurer, Laura Smidt; historian, Rose Husted; cultural arts, Ruby Preston (retiring); membership, Alison Dennis; Editor of CFEL flyer, Sue Gose; and past president, Vivian Rearick.

Recognition was given to Area IV officers: Alison Dennis, Area IV director; Ellen Halter, vice president, and newly elected president, Perry. State recognition was given to Deanne Ness, membership; and Alison Dennis, Area IV director.

President Rearic encouraged all members to invite new members. Presidents and secretaries of each club were recognized:

• BCNU — Rose Husted, president; Laura Smidt, secretary

• Busy Fingers — Deanne Ness, president; Lynette Spanbauer, secretary

• BYYs — Janice Wagner, president; Florence Adermann, secretary

• Country Neighbors — Alison Dennis, presi-dent; Donna Dickson, secretary

• Domestic Engineers — Ruby Preston, president; Shirley Rohrer, secretary

Also recognized were the 2012 SDCFEL Council executive board members from Beadle County:

• Area IV director — Alison Dennis

• Marketing/Membership — Deanne Ness

• Acting Parliamentarian — Vivian Rearick

State Convention reports were given by Pat Jones and Perry. Planning has begun for the 2013 convention to be held in Huron. Recognition was given to state honorees. A highlight was Rearick receiving the President’s Award, and she was given a fall arrangement by the group. Reading certificates were awarded, and cultural arts winners were recognized, including seven who received purple ribbons. Beadle County won a blue ribbon for the issues report prepared by Florence Adermann. She announced that the 2013 issues will be “Acupuncture and Nutrition” and “Live, Laugh and Learn.”

Busy Fingers will be decorating the Christmas tree at the Crossroads.

Door prizes were awarded by Country Neighbors.
