Dakota Harmony Chorus, under the direction of Kevin Waller of Miller, is presenting “Goodtime Barbershop Variety Show” on Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. at Riverview United Methodist Church, 1640 Simmons Ave. S.E.,

A freewill offering for the show will benefit the Salvation Army and the Central Prairie Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Featured guest musician is Joe Pekas of Mitchell at the keyboard. Pekas has a master of music degree and has taught band and chorus for 39 years. He spent 43 years in the 147th Army Band, SDNG, and served as trumpet player, keyboard player, conductor and commander. He has played trumpet, piano or bass guitar with his own combo/big band as well as with numerous area bands. He has conducted the Mitchell Municipal Band since 1966. Presently he plays in the CJ Rusken big band and tours the Midwest and Arizona with the Sammy Jensen Orchestra. He was inducted into the Dakotas Music Hall of Fame in 2011.

The United Methodist Women will be providing a soup and sandwich supper following the show. A freewill offering will be taken for the supper, as well, to be used by the women for their projects through the year.

Dakota Harmony is a four-part women’s barbershop chorus. The group performs many genres of music including sacred music, folk songs, classics and Christmas music.

The women put on a show every other year, donating the proceeds to local charities. They have performed in the Salvation Army Christmas Basket program, traveled to Pierre to sing in the Capitol during the holiday season, sung in area churches, and entertained nursing home and assisted living residents. Group members come from the communities of Miller, Wessington, Alpena and Huron.
