Kenneth Eldon Thiesen Sr., 76, of Doland, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Doland with the Rev. Kris Larson officiating. Cremains burial will be at a later date. Visit thelenfuneralhome.com.
Kenneth Eldon Thiesen was born March 31, 1936, at Goessel, Kan., to Daniel and Esther (Franz) Thiesen. He graduated from Goessel High School. He worked on the family farm, a local lumberyard and various jobs. He was working on a custom combine crew when he came to South Dakota.
He married Linda Jansen at Doland July 28, 1957. They lived on the farm northwest of Doland until 1988 when he retired. He then worked at the Doland Elevator for 10 years. They traveled to Alaska in 2011. He enjoyed collecting antiques and spent a lot of time junking. He restored a Farmall tractor, which is in a museum in Pierre.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Kenneth Jr. (Lona) of Minot, N.D., David of Doland, Danny of Watertown and Jonathon of Flandreau; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Lucille (Palmer) Base of Tampa, Kan., Evelena (Bob) Androes of Walton, Kan., Alvin (Ann) of Newton, Kan., and Geneva Prych of Newton, Kan.
