NAPLES — Melvin C. Hanson, 80, of Naples, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Sioux Falls.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Vienna with the Revs. Dave Larson and Keith Garness officiating. Burial will follow in Naples Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Furness Funeral Home at Clark and prior to the service.
Melvin Clarence Hanson was born Oct. 29, 1932, to Arthur and Camilla (Huke) Hanson northwest of Naples. He graduated from Henry High School in 1950. On Aug. 30, 1952, he married Marcene Anderson at Lake Norden. They farmed in the Naples area, first with his brother and then with his son, Myron. He retired from farming five years ago. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Willow Lake Lions Club for 30 years, served as the Foxton Township supervisor for 20 years and was a Clark County commissioner for 15 years. He enjoyed bowling and hosting pheasant hunters.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Marvin (Michelle) of Sullivan, Ill., Merl (Tammy) of Iroquois, Myron (Laurie) of Vienna and Marla (Russ) Althoff of Webster; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Clarine (Ralph) Lamb of Willow Lake; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Hanson of Watertown; and a brother-in-law, Roger (Donna) Anderson of Lake Norden.
