REDFIELD — Mildred Christman, 101, of Redfield, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Redfield. She was cremated and a private memorial will be held at a later date. Her arrangements were announced by Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.
Mildred Hampton was born Sept. 7, 1911, at Huron to Gordon and Artie (Bendorf) Hampton. She graduated from Huron High School, then she received her teaching certificate and taught school near Gettysburg in Potter County for a few years.
She married Frank Schroeder in Hitchcock in 1931. They lived in Hitchcock and she worked for various businesses and for the city, including being town constable for a short time. Her husband died in 1957 and she moved to Redfield where she was the head baker at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield until 1971.
She married Jake Christman in 1968 and they moved to Arkansas. They enjoyed traveling. They returned to Redfield in 1992. Her second husband died in 1994.
She enjoyed visiting.
She is survived by a son, Gordon (Mitzi) Schroeder of Redfield; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris McNutt of Texas; and a brother, Donald Hampton of Huron.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, one brother and four sisters.
