All even after first four games of Rooster Cup 2012

HURON ó Team South Dakota and Team North America were even at two games apiece following the opening four games of Rooster Cup 2012 on Friday at Bergman Arena.

Team South Dakota jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Sioux Falls defeated Gabriel-Roy 3-1 and Aberdeen edged Team Wyoming, which is part of Team North America, 6-5.

Team North America rebounded with a pair of wins. Gabriel-Roy defeated Oahe 4-1 and Team Wyoming blanked Huron 4-0.

Results from the final game Friday night between College Jeanne-Sauve of Canada and Sioux Falls were not available at press time.

Wyoming led 1-0 against the All-Stars after the opening period and added a pair of goals in the second period before capping the scoring with a goal in the final period.

A score sheet from the game was not available.

Sioux Falls 3, Gabriel-Roy 1

After yielding the opening goal, Sioux Falls scored three unanswered goals to earn the win.

Scoring goals for the Flyers were Branond Appeldorn, Caleb Anderson and Jack Hunter.

Mathieu Nolette had the lone goal for Gabriel-Roy.

Aberdeen 6, Team Wyoming 5

Logan Williams scored the game-winning goal for Aberdeen in the third period.

Dustin Santjer had a pair of goals to lead the Cougars, while Jacob Milbrandt, Bailey Roberts and Ryan Bower each added a goal.

Dalton McCann and John Scott each had two goals for Team Wyoming. Kyler Yerkovich had the other goal.

Rooster Cup 2012 continues today at Bergman Arena, with the first of seven games slated for 7:30 a.m.

The Huron All-Stars will face College Jeanne-Sauve of Canada in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game at 9 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to toss onto the ice following the first goal of the game. The stuffed animals will be collected and donated to the Salvation Army for its Angel Tree program.
