WESSINGTON SPRINGS ó Ella Schafer, 92, of Wessington Springs, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Saviorís Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Arrangements are with Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Ella Schafer was born to Christian and Martha (Wolter) Schafer Dec. 7, 1919, at Lane. She attended high school in Lane and Wessington Springs and graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, She studied at the Lutheran Bible Institute and Augsburg College in Minneapolis and obtained nursing training from the Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She served as a missionary in a dispensary in India for five years. She moved back to Minneapolis in 1957 and was a nurse for 19 years. In 1977 she moved back to Wessington Springs.
She was a member of the Free Methodist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church, both in Wessington Springs. She enjoyed painting, quilting, sewing and collecting stamps and spoons.
She is survived by a sister, Doris Schafer of Wessington Springs; two brothers, Harold of Longmont, Colo., and Glen (Betty) of Wessington Springs; eight nieces and nephews; and 10 grandnieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Vera.
