HURON — Lucille A. Alger, 90, formerly of Highmore, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, after a short stay at SunQuest Healthcare Center.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Highmore with the Rev. Kori Lehrkamp officiating. Burial will follow in Highmore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Luze Funeral Home in Highmore.
Lucille Adah Rander was born Feb. 13, 1922, at home in Todd County, Minn., to Henry and Hedwig (Kassube) Rander. She graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1939. She attended Drew’s Business College in St. Cloud, Minn. She moved to Minneapolis where she worked as a bookkeeper for Bautels, Northwestern Bank and Twin City Federal. She married Noyes Alger Nov. 6, 1948, and they moved to Highmore in 1950. She was a member of Highmore Methodist Church, PTA, Rebekkahs and Eastern Star. In 2005, she moved to Huron. She loved to cook and read cookbooks. Her cookbook collection numbered in the hundreds.
She is survived by two children, Karen (Don) Rinke of Willmar, Minn., and Barry (Mary) Alger of Highmore; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, Terry; a stepson, Wood Alger; a son-in-law, Dennis Albrecht; and a granddaughter, Jeni Albrecht.
