HURON — Verna Ondricek, 99, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.
Cremains burial will 10 a.m. Thursday at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are with Welter Funeral Home. Visit welterfuneralhome.com.
Verna M. Kopecky was born to August and Mary (Bouzek) Kopecky on a farm near Highmore in 1913. She graduated from Highmore High School in 1931.
In 1931 she married Joseph Ondricek. They farmed in Hyde County near Highmore until 1945 when they moved to Huron. She was employed at Armour & Company in Huron. In 1964 they moved to California; back to Hyde County in 1971; and to Huron again in 1987. She became a resident of SunQuest Healthcare Center in December 2011. She was a member of various Extension clubs. Her interests included gardening, quilting, crafts and playing cards. She traveled extensively to many states west of the Mississippi River.
She is survived by a son, Burton (Betty) of Somerset, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law, Nila of Huron and Linda of Hollister, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband Aug. 15, 1966; two sons, Myron and Joey; a grandson; a brother, Glen (Clara); and two sisters, Avis (Bill) Gilbert and June (Leonard) Lavigne.
