Witness live drama and music as “Celebrate Christmas … a Night of Love and Laughter” takes you back to that little town and the retells the story of the very first Christmas in a ‘Saturday Night Live’ format, said John Semchenko, worship leader at Celebrate Community Church.

The program will be held Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Campus Center, located at 333 Ninth St. S.W. It starts at 7 p.m. Complimentary tickets are available at Avenue of Flowers or the Donut Shoppe in downtown Huron.

“It’s a fresh way of telling the story of Christmas,” said Semchenko. “Our main goal is to give the community an opportunity to laugh and experience what Celebrate Community Church is all about.”

Celebrate Community Church meets at 11 a.m. on Sundays at the Campus Center. Originally established in Sioux Falls in 1999, the Celebrate Community Church started meeting in Huron in July. “We have an adult and a children’s group on Sundays,” he said. Each of the church campuses has a leader, but their message delivered is the same. Semchenko, of Sioux Falls, grew up in the small town of Max, N.D. “Being from a small town, I have a heart for communities like Huron, and our church is all about creating a welcome home environment,” he said.

Music is an important aspect of their services, Semchenko said.

“We love the arts. Music and drama are two things that we feel are important in sharing the message of Christ.”

Semchenko says the community has been very supportive. “In the short time we’ve been here, we’ve fallen in love with the community of Huron,” he said. “We love the people — everyone is so friendly and welcoming at every turn.”
