HIGHMORE — Robert A. Sandstedt, 80, of Highmore, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, as a result of post-polio syndrome and complications at Highmore Health.
His memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore, with the Rev. Canon David Hussey officiating. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery, Ree Heights.
Robert (Bob) Alan Sandstedt was born April 28, 1932, in Omaha, Neb., to Carl L. and Anne (Straub) Sandstedt. At the age of 17 he contracted polio. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1951. He attended South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
He married Darlene Semmler on Dec. 22, 1959. In 1963, they moved to Oregon where they purchased some tree-covered property. In 1968, he began working for the city of Portland as a design engineer/draftsman for the department of streets and structures.
After retiring in 1987 he became a full-time timber farmer. In 2008, they moved to Highmore.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Highmore; a stepsister, Coral (Joe) Bonneman of Brookings; two sisters-in-law, Jan Semmler of Ree Heights and Catherine (Earl) Siefken of Pierre; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his his parents; his step-father, Frank Coffey; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Jean Sandstedt; two brothers-in-law, Newton Semmler and Lester Semmler; and a grandnephew.
