Lady All-Stars slip past Sioux Falls

HURON ó The Huron Lady All-Stars scored two goals in each of the first two periods and held on for a 4-3 victory against the Sioux Falls Lady Flyers on Saturday at Bergman Arena.

The Lady All-Stars carried a 2-0 lead into the second period after goals by Jordan Miller and Paige Small.

Miller scored on a pass from Kaylee Milbrandt, while Miller and Milbrandt combined on the assist for the second goal.

Huron boosted its lead to 3-0 as Alexys Riggs scored on a pass from Hope Goethel.

Sioux Falls then narrowed its deficit to just a goal with back-to-back goals by Alex Bettmeng. Taylor Dawley and Hanna Mutschelknaus assisted on the first and Mutschelknaus was credited with the assist on the second.

Miller score her second goal of the game to give the Lady All-Stars a 4-2 lead heading into the final period. Ashley Waagen and Goethel assisted on the play.

Sioux Falls had the lone goal of the third period, as Mutschelknaus scored on an unassisted shot to make it 4-3.

Erin Scheibe finished with 21 saves as the Huron goalie to earn the victory.

Brittany Corcoran stopped 32 of the 36 shots she faced in the net for the Lady Flyers.

Huron will square off against Sioux Falls again at noon today at Bergman Arena.
