HURON — Richard “Butch” Ziegeldorf, 90, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at SunQuest Healthcare Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Yale. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service. Richard Ziegeldorf was born to Otto and Dora (Boetel) Ziegeldorf May 14, 1922, at Yale. He graduated from Yale High School in 1940. He married Virginia Hatcher Dec. 16, 1942, at Huron. They lived on the family farm near Yale. She died Oct. 26, 1985.
On June 27, 1992, he married Genevieve McDowell and moved to Lakefield, Minn. They moved to Olivia, Minn., in 2009 and he entered SunQuest in 2012. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Yale and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield. He enjoyed woodworking and cooking, coached baseball and was the mayor of Yale for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Ron (Karon) ) of Huron, Richard (Connie) of Aurora and Randy (Nancy) of Yale; a daughter, Janice (Tim) Grassel of Artesian; a stepson, James (Elaine) McDowell of Olivia; a stepdaughter, Jill (Lynn) Sorenson of Plymouth, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Ormalyn Boetel.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; a sister, Esther (Joe) Ford; and a brother, Martin.
