HURON — Esther Kinning, 98, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Congregational UCC with the Rev. Marion Cain officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Eagle Butte Cemetery at Eagle Butte with the Rev. Esther Leona Bauder was born May 10, 1914, north of Alpena to Jacob and Karolina (Lehr) Bauder. She attended county schools and Stewart’s School of Hair Styling in Sioux Falls. She owned Esther’s Beauty Shop in Huron.
On July 11, 1945, she married Robert Kinning and they moved to Eagle Butte. They owned the John Deere store and the Standard station and she opened a beauty shop and worked in a drug store. She moved to Huron in 1991. She was a member of United Congregational Church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries, BCNU Extension Club, Master Gardeners, GFWC Fortnightly and Midday Connection. She volunteered with home delivered meals and Huron Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by a son, Richard (Felicia) of Lafayette, La.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold of Huron; and a sister-in law, Jeanne Bauder of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Herman; a sister, Edna Harrelson; and three sisters-in-law, Elaine Bauder, Marjorie (Ben) Ganje and Harriet Glassmaker.For the complete article see the 01-03-2013 issue.
