CUSTER — Ellen LaVonne Winter, 72, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Custer Regional Senior Care in Custer.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Custer Lutheran Fellowship with the Revs. Tom Opoien and Kent Narum officiating.
Ellen LaVonne Ellingson was born June 10, 1940, on the family farm near Forestburg to Alfred and Foresta (Jopp) Ellingson. She graduated from Forestburg High School and attended General Beadle Teachers College in Madison.
She married James Winter Aug. 24, 1959, at Forestburg.
They farmed southwest of Huron with his family for many years. She raised poultry and gardened and enjoyed oil painting, volunteering with her church and traveling. In 1970 they purchased an acreage outside of Custer where they built their retirement home. In 1980 they moved to Custer where they owned and operated Winter Radio – radio sales and service.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Jack of Huron; two daughters, JoAnn (Dan) Stearns of Elk Mountain and Jenny (Tim) Behlings of Custer; three brothers, Gene (Mae) of Forestburg, Wayne (Marie) of Federal Way, Wash., and her twin, Arnold (Cheri) of India, Calif.; a granddaughter; and five grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
