HARROLD — Ruth Sylvia Bayne, 87, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.
A private family service was held at Medicine Hill Cemetery in Harrold.
Ruth Sylvia Carlton was born to Willie and Alta (Burchett) Carlton June 9, 1925, in Kentucky. She was five years old when her mother died from typhoid fever. She also had typhoid and always remembered the headaches.
She attended country churches and schools. She was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church and served as Sunday school secretary and the training union leader for several years.
She married Ervin Bayne June 4, 1964, and they moved to Harrold. They farmed on his family farm. He died suddenly June 19, 1999. She continued to live on the farm. She enjoyed reading, playing the guitar and singing, playing phonograph records, watching TV, and sewing.
She is survived by a sister, Mildred; two half brothers, Murl and Wayne; four half sisters, Zenova, Jean, Glema and Phala; and some cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Eloise; an infant brother and sister; several brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
