PIERRE — Frank L. Wellner, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at St. Mary Hospital in Pierre.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pierre. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. wake service at St. Ann Catholic Church in Miller. Visit remboldfuneralhome.com.
Frank Leroy Wellner was born Nov. 21, 1926, at Mitchell to George and Nellie (Waugh) Wellner. He was raised in Chamberlain. He went to Washington state to work in the shipyards. He joined the Navy and served in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He returned to South Dakota and married Shirley Diede Dec. 9. 1950. They moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he worked at a Convair Aircraft factory. They farmed east of Stephan and lived in Pierre while he worked on the Oahe Dam. They moved to Fort Thompson where they farmed and ran Lee’s Corner. She died Jan. 7, 1989. He married Dorothy Shaykett in 1991. They moved to Miller in 1997 and to Sioux Falls in 2010. She died in 2011 and he moved to Pierre.
He is survived by a son, Frank (Cathy) of Pierre; a stepson, Steve (Diane) Shaykett of Hartford; a sister, Pat Johnson of Houston; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by both wives; two sisters, Dorothy and Mickey; a brother, George; and a stepson, Greg Shaykett.
