Grant Bates, 77, of Miller

MILLER Grant Bates, 77, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Miller.

No services will be held.

Grant Thomas Bates was born July 30, 1935, to Harold and Leona (Siebrecht) Bates at Webster. He graduated from Webster High School in 1953. He joined the Army and served at Fort Lewis and Yakima, Wash.

He graduated from Northern State College with a teaching degree and taught mathematics and science in Wessington, Barnard, Philip and Harrold. A brain tumor operation ended his teaching career.

He moved to Raymond, Wash., and opened a salvage business. He operated the business until rmoving to the Good Samaritan Center in Miller.

He is survived by four brothers, Gary (Barb) of Miller, Morris (Pat) of Homer, Neb., Maurice (Roberta) of Ashville, N.C., and Charles (Georgia) of Puyallup, Wash.; a sister, Emma (Jack) Holm of Eagan, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patty; and a brother, George (Connie).
