HURON ó Martin Eichstadt, age 86, of Huron and formerly of Wolsey, died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.† His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 16th at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Wolsey, with Rev. L. Martin Eichstadt was born September 12, 1926, to Herman and Martha (Gogolin) Eichstadt at Wolsey.† He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Wolsey, where he was a life-long member and served as a trustee for many years.† Martin attended school at Updike in Wessington Township for eight years and graduated from Wolsey High School in 1944.† He entered the United States Navy in March of 1945, and was honorably discharged in August of 1946.
On October 21, 1947, Martin married Edith Scheibe at Watertown.† He spent his entire life on his farm west of Wolsey; with the exception of three years spent in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he worked as a carpenter.†
Martin and Edith had spent 20 winters in Yuma, Arizona.† He loved the farm and enjoyed horses, playing cards, watching western movies and the Minnesota Twins.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 65 years, Edith of Huron; three sons, Craig (Gail) Eichstadt of Pierre, Scott (Ruth) Eichstadt of Wolsey and Kirk (Dawn Glanzer) Eichstadt of Wolsey; four grandchildren, Ann (Scott) Saniuk of Omaha, Nebraska, Michael (Ashley) Eichstadt of Wolsey, Neil (Molly Quinn) Eichstadt of Sioux Falls and Carl Eichstadt of Pierre; four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Riley Eichstadt and Benjamin and Emma Saniuk; one sister, Dorothy Sibbers of Huron; and five brothers, Robert Eichstadt and Richard Eichstadt both of Huron, Frederick (Caroline) Eichstadt and Paul (Kathryn) Eichstadt all of Wolsey and Willis Eichstadt of Monmouth, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale and Mark Eichstadt; and one sister, Mary in infancy.
