De Smet, C-WL earn wins

MITCHELL The De Smet Lady Bulldogs overcame a slow start to preserve their undefeated record with a 42-33 victory against previously unbeaten Highmore-Harrold on Saturday during the Hanson Classic at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

The Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 11-0, scored just two points in the opening quarter and trailed 27-23 heading into the final quarter. They would outscore the Pirates 19-6 in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Kelsey Popppen finished with 16 points to lead De Smet. Rylie Osthus had 10 points, while Grayson Gruenhagen and Kelli Aughenbaugh each added six points.

McKenzee Zilverberg had a game-high 19 points to lead Highmore-Harrold, which is now 9-1. Sydney Cowan added eight points and had a team-high nine rebounds.

De Smet returns to action today at Hamlin.

MITCHELL The Clark-Willow Lake Cyclones earned their third straight win with a 52-43 victory against Parkston during the Hanson Classic on Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell

Mackenzie Huber had 17 points to lead Clark-Willow Lake, which improved to 6-3. Janelle Paulson also reached double figures with 15 points, while Mikayla Prouty added nine points.

Erica Herrold led Parkston (6-4) with a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds.

Clark-Willow Lake will travel to play Hamlin on Friday.
