Highmore-Harrold, SC-W to meet for 281 girls’ title

HURON — With three players in double figures, second-seeded Highmore-Harrold earned its spot in the championship game of the 281 Conference Girls’ Basketball Tournament with a 73-31 victory against Wessington Springs on Monday at Huron Arena.

The Pirates, who improved to 10-1, used a 23-5 run in the second quarter build a 33-14 lead at the half.

They led 8-22 heading into the final quarter.

Courtney Keller had 18 points for Highmore-Harrold to lead all scorers.

McKenzee Zilverberg and Sydney Cowan each finished with 16 points.

The Pirates had a 34-31 edge on the boards, with Cowan pulling down nine rebounds. Zilverberg had a team-high eight assists, while Cowan had three steals.

Sheyanne Brodkorb was the lone player to reach double figures for the Lady Spartans (4-6).

Shyanne Kopfmann added nine points.

Brodkorb grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds, while Morgan Tebay had a pair of assists and Cassidy Mussick had three steals.

Highmore-Harrold will face top-seeded Sanborn Central-Woonsocket in the championship game at 6 p.m. Thursday at Huron Arena.

Wessington Springs will play James Valley Christian for third place at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Huron Arena.

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 76, James Valley Christian 50

HURON — Behind the play of 6-foot-2 junior Shelby Selland on the inside, top-seeded Sanborn Central-Woonsocket defeated James Valley Christian 76-50 in the semifinals of the 281 Conference Tournament on Monday at Huron Arena.

Shelby Selland finished with a game-high 29 points to lead the Blackhawks, who ranked No. 3 in the latest Class B poll. Rachel Selland and Rachelle Moore also reached double figures with 18 and 10 points, respectively.

Shelby Selland also had 10 rebounds and four steals for Sanborn Central-Woonsocket, while Moore had four steals.

Jaclyn Loban led James Valley Christian, which is now 6-4, with 12 points. Anna Ulvestad had nine points, all coming on 3-pointers, while Tara Nihart added eight points.

Betsy Nelson snagged a team-high six rebounds, while Hannah Loban had five assists and two steals to go along with two steals for Jaclyn Loban.

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket advances to face Highmore-Harrold in the championship game, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Huron Arena.

The Lady Vikings will face Wessington Springs in the third-place game on Thursday at 3 p.m. at Huron Arena.
