Highmore-Harrold defeats Spartans

HURON — The Highmore-Harrold Pirates extended a four-point lead into a 13-point half-time advantage outscoring the Wessington Springs Spartans 14-5 on their way to a 48-29 victory.

Hadley Hamlin had six points on a pair of three-pointers and Jordan Houdek added another four to account for 10 of the 14 points scored in the second quarter.

Hamlin added another three-pointer in the second half to finish with 13 points and Jordan Houdek, who had eight points at halftime, finished with a game-high 14 points.

Braden Jones tried to keep the Spartans close in the first half, scoring all six points in the first quarter. But Wessington Springs managed just field goals by Zachary Paulson and Trenity Kenobbie to go along with a free throw by Deion Sales in the second quarter as the Pirates pulled away.

Jones finished with a team-high nine points and Nicolas Paulson, who was scoreless in the first half, had six points in the second half.
Highmore-Harrold shot nearly 50 percent from two-point range and finished 4-of-15 from three-point range.

That, combined with a 33-21 rebounding advantage, were keys to victory.

Hamlin had a game-high 12 rebounds to go with his 13 points and he also had three steals.

Jordan Houdek had seven rebounds to go with his 14 points and Hayden Houdek grabbed six rebounds, had five assists and finished with four points.

Cole Oakley had four assists, three steals and five points.

For the Spartans, Hohn grabbed four rebounds.

Jones and Austin Messmer had two steals apiece and Kenobbie collected five assists.

The Pirates will play in the consolation championship game Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against Sunshine Bible Academy.
